News Summary: The Rockwell Collins Venue™ High Definition (HD) Cabin Management System for business aircraft recently won the 2009 GOOD DESIGN Award and the 2010 International Forum (iF) Product Design Award.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (April 01, 2010) - The Rockwell Collins Venue™ High Definition (HD) Cabin Management System for business aircraft recently won the 2009 GOOD DESIGN Award and the 2010 International Forum (iF) Product Design Award.

"These awards validate the best-in-class design of our Venue cabin management system in terms of aesthetics, usability and technology," said John Hill, senior director, Business Jet Cabin Systems for Rockwell Collins. "Since we introduced Venue in 2007, it has consistently received high marks for its superior design and advanced capabilities that match or surpass what can be found in the most sophisticated office or high-end home theatre."

The GOOD DESIGN Award is given annually by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. All award-winning products and graphics will be exhibited at The Chicago Athenaeum in the GOOD DESIGN Show for 2009 in Chicago in June 2010.

The iF product design award covers all areas of product design. The 778 winners of the iF Product Design Award were judged in 16 categories ranging from design quality to functionality and ergonomics.

Rockwell Collins partnered with Teague, a Seattle-based industrial design consultancy, to develop Venue's hardware design and intuitive user interface, including OLED switch panels that feature programmable soft buttons and an easy-to-use, icon-based user interface.

Venue is the industry's first complete, HD cabin management system for business aircraft that includes the features and functionality of the most advanced home entertainment systems and executive suites. It offers wide-screen and high definition in-seat and bulkhead displays, intuitive switch and touchscreen controllers, HD sources such as the Venue Media Center and Dual Blu-Ray Disc player, plus integrated audio-on-demand, audio and video jukebox, and extensive support for passengers' personal devices, including computers, Blackberry® phones, Apple iPods and iPhones, and soon, the iPad.

Venue's onboard data network, including wired and Wi-Fi options, integrates with various broadband services, enabling passengers to stay connected and productive via laptops, voice-over IP, or other personal devices throughout flight. The system's HDMI and VGA ports allow computers to be displayed on the cabin monitors, enabling passengers to collaborate on and to share presentations and other content.

Previous design awards for Venue included the Red Dot Design Award and the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) Northwest Design Invitational (NWDI) Award. Learn more about Venue at
